The annual Mango Festival – Jazan province

HRH Prince Mohammed bin Naser bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Governor of Jazan Province, is always very keen on opening the Annual  Mango Festival which is held every year under his sponsorship in Jazan Province. HRH Prince Mohammed interest in this festival is a reflection of the great importance of this fruit in the support of the local economy as it is of extreme high quality compared all other types of mangoes imported from abroad.
This annual festival is very popular amongst the people of the region, and is always visited by a high number of people. This was the reason why Saudi Marketing Co. Ltd (SAMCO) represented by FARM Superstores in Jazan participated in this festival as a sponsor. The festival took place between 4/5/2011 and 10/5/2011. FARM Superstores also made sure to have available and promote these local mangoes in all its 36 branches in Saudi Arabia, 32 branches of which are spread in the Eastern Province in Dammam, Al-khobar, Dhahran, Hasa, Jubail, Qatif, Safwa, Um-Alsahik, Rastanura & Al-khafji. In addition to 3 branches in Jeddah as well as Jazan branch.
It is important to state that the Ministry of Agriculture represented by the research center in Jazan Province has introduced in 1982 a variety of high quality mangoes from countries famous in its cultivation such as Egypt, Sudan, USA, India, Australia & Kenya and conducted lots of studies and tests to cultivate it in Jazan Province. At present there are around 570,000 Mango trees in Jazan that has been cultivated on about 62,000 acres producing about 27,800 tons of high quality mangoes per year. Some of the Mango types produced in Jazan are Indian Special, Jalan, Tommy Atkins, Sensation, Zal, Julie, Sudani and others
